The Stepford Wives (1975)
A young mother with a promising photography career is moved to the country by her husband. They move to an exclusive community where she can't help but notice that the wives are docile and submissive. She also notices the overwhelming presence of the Men's Association. In an attempt to liberate the women with discussion group, her feelings that something is awry are only reinforced by the women's expressed dismay over household chores, more so than being repressed as individuals. Are the women of the town being poisoned? And what caused the sudden change in her friends' behavior? (One of her friends is Ginger from Gilligan's Island!) This movie spawned three made-for-TV movies: Revenge of the Stepford Wives, the Stepford Children, and the Stepford Husbands, as well as a 2004 remake, starring Nicole Kidman and Matthew Broderick. Also, if you've seen the movie Get Out, Jordan Peele has acknowledge that this movie, to some small degree, served as inspiration.
