This is the story of a beautiful young woman named Nonnie. She has a very childlike sense of wonder and naivete about her. Because of her beauty, She attracts a lot of attention. Her husband is very jealous and controlling, at times verbally and physically abusive. Nonnie's husband is taking her out because she's "behaved herself," as he put it. They stop at a bar/soda shop, and as he's excused himself to the restroom, Nonnie is quickly befriended by a mute clown who is part of the carnival that's in town. When Nonnie's husband returns, he is overcome with jealousy and loses his temper. What will become of Nonnie...and what will become of the clown???
